Barbara Meynell creates vibrant, intricate pictures using the technique of batik. Each piece of work is totally individual due to the unique and unpredictable outcomes of using hot wax and dyes on paper and silk. She mostly draws inspiration from coastal and mountain landscapes, exploring the essence of a place and aiming to capture space and light in her work.
Barbara produces a range of individually hand-painted silk scarves that are stocked by Seagrass Studios in Hoylake. She takes part in the Wirral Open Studios, displaying her batik pictures and scarves.
She has taught silk painting and batik to adults in further education, run projects with children in schools in Liverpool and worked with adults with mental health needs in Manchester. She runs occasional workshops in batik at her studio in Meols.
