Halloween success!
A spookily great night had by all.... On the night we unfortunately had to turn quite a few people away because numbers would have exceeded the maximum allowed under Fire regulations. Huge apologies to those people, we simply could not have anticipated the demand, nearly three times the attendance in 2010! Next year this will need to be a tickets-only event.
But alas, for those who did get in, what a blast! Thanks to the Wednesday Special Needs Club for all their incredibly hard work in dressing the Centre beforehand, and The Parade, Hoylake Community Centre for hosting the event. Also thanks to our prize-giver John Gorman and the excellent DJ, Andy, who made the night extra special fun for the kids. Check out some more pics here.

Hoylake Community Cinema
On Friday 11.11.11, Remembrance Day, we are screening Regeneration at The Parade, Hoylake Community Centre. The film is based on the book by Pat Barker about the war poets Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen, and their time at Craiglockhart Hospital in Scotland. We are grateful to members of the Wilfred Owen Story who will be there to make it a really special night.
Do look out for our forthcoming Saturday Matinees for children, where kids can be left with HVL's professional childcare service while parents go shopping in Hoylake or just have a couple of hours peace at home!
Click here to find out what we will be screening during the 2011/12 Film Season, including a Christmas Special screening of It's a Wonderful Life on Sunday 18 December, with mulled wine, mince pies and bags of Christmas merriment!
Remember, you can book online on our website using our events bookings system. Come along and make the most of this great new facility in Hoylake, with quirky independent and classic films as the overarching theme.

We're only making plans…
What's your Vision for Hoylake? This year, HVL was awarded Neighbourhood Plan Vanguard Status by the Government's Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG), along with a small number of other community groups around the country.
We will soon be presenting ideas and seeking the views of the community on a 'Plan' for the future of Hoylake. If it is endorsed by the community in a local referendum to be held in 2012, the plan becomes an official policy document which the council will support and implement when making planning and development decisions. Look out for our three-month billboard campaign (pictured) starting on Monday 14 November, go to our website to fill in an online survey or check out the inserts in local newspapers to fill in a paper form.
We need your feedback and your vote! Hoylake's future needs to be shaped by the community. Want to get involved? Email us!

Food Fair success
Another great Food Fair at The Parade, Hoylake Community Centre
Local patisserie guru Les Bell of Hoylake café Chantilly (pictured) gave some great baking demonstrations. Approximately 2,000 people came on the day and enjoyed some really scrummy treats and took home some of the best of local produce. Have you been to one of these great events yet? Organised by The Parade, Hoylake Community Centre, these have become high-profile regular events that not only help put Hoylake on the map but clearly show that Hoylake really does have a beating heart! Check out some pics of the day here.

Late Poetic Licensing
Hoylake resident poet Graham Robinson (author of the book Observations on Life, available from the author and Hoylake newsagents) is starting a regular 'Poets' Corner' (open mic) at Glassfire Bar in Hoylake. The next date for your diary is Tuesday 15 November. It starts at 8.00pm and will finish at about 11.00pm (although the bar is licensed until midnight).... It is not a competition but Glassfire have kindly given an award for the most notable poem of the evening. The award is £50.00 and will be decided by a 'Guest Poet'. There will be music and raffles and drinking and merriment and Graham will be sharing MC duties with local poet Stella Jones. Whether you want to read or simply come and watch the poets 'strut their stuff' you will be made very welcome! Click here to read Graham's Blog
