<p>The original Punch Bowl was the oldest Inn in Hoylake, dating back to mid-Victorian times and consisted of a small thatched cottage that jutted into Market Street.  However, by the early twentieth century Market Street had become much busier and the cottage created a bottle-neck for traffic.</p>
