The original Punch Bowl was the oldest Inn in Hoylake, dating back to mid-Victorian times and consisted of a small thatched cottage that jutted into Market Street. However, by the early twentieth century Market Street had become much busier and the cottage created a bottle-neck for traffic.
It was decided that it should be 'moved back' to allow Market Street to be widened at this point, and was demolished. The current building dates from the 1930s, and is a large, prominent feature with a central bar, two lounges and a snug to the rear.
