He then worked in commercial art in the North West. During a period of change, he lived and worked in North Wales before entering the teaching profession and becoming head of the art department in a large comprehensive school. During his career, he worked on stage design, store and exhibition displays and graphics.

Robert works mostly in oils and has exhibited in Liverpool, Wales and Wirral. He has held many one-man shows in the North West, raising considerable sums of money for various charities. He has sold work in Europe and the United States and has travelled widely and painted many of the places visited, depicting industrial and rural landscapes in traditional and abstract forms. He has also painted several large murals for local churches.

Robert is now retired and lives in Meols on Wirral.
