Ken Mountain was born in Hoylake and is a self-taught artist.  During his working years his time for painting was limited.  However, in 1995 he took early retirement, attended Nigel Morris's art class in the Community Centre in Hoylake and began to work in oils.  His paintings vary but are usually figurative or landscape works.  They include paintings of Hilbre Island, the Royal Liverpool Golf Links, the Lady of Hilbre lifeboat at sea and the Dee Estuary.

Much of Ken's work is now commissioned but he still exhibits various pieces whenever he can  He has exhibited with various art groups over the years and in individual art galleries throughout Wirral.  He exhibites regularly in the Spring Exhibition at the Williamson Art Gallery, Birkenhead and has sold work there.

Five of Ken's golf paintings have been sold at auction by Bonhams of Chester and he has been asked to produce two paintings for the Women's Open in Hoylake in 2012. Some of his paintings are now in the USA, Japan, South Africa and Australia.  He has recently completed two portraits: a copy of The Girl with a Pearl Earring by Jan Vermeer and an original, Sakura no hana, Cherry Blossom, which could be seen in his exhibition in Seagrass Studio Gallery, Hoylake from 8 September - 6 October 2010.
