The Friends of Hilbre was formed in 2001 and its membership is approximately 150. Its intention is to help the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral maintain the beautiful islands of Little Eye, Middle Eye, and Hilbre and the surrounding foreshores.

The aims of the group are to promote the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment of Hilbre Islands Local Nature Reserve for the benefit of the public; to provide funds, volunteer help, educational facilities and other related charitable goods and services; and to offer practical help under the guidance of the appropriate officer of the Local Authority.
