The Portrait House is a former photographic studio that has been completely refurbished to provide an intimate ambience. In keeping with its history, the walls exhibit works by local artists.

The cuisine is contemporary and classic, using the best local, seasonal produce wherever possible. The Portrait House is open from midday to midnight seven days a week.

We've been to The Portrait House several times and never been disappointed. The food has always been excellent and a wide choice off the menu. There's also a cosy bar area to enjoy a drink before or after your meal. The only critisim I would give are the tables on the top tier don't allow you much room if there's another couple sitting either side of you, I also felt as if your conversation could be overheard.

I've been eating at The Portrait House since it opened a few years ago. It just gets better and better, and congrats on all the much deserved awards you guys have been winning recently. Keep up the good work. 10/10

Tip top combo of style and great cooking

Having been impressed on my first visit I came back with 10 guests for a family birthday celebration.

What I really like about this place is that there is a stylish bar area in which to mingle with your guests whilst supping an aperitif and perusing the menu. In fact the whole place oozes style inside and out.

By common assent in my party the food was tip top. You couldn’t have asked for better. The menu left one struggling to eliminate the potential options and the very acceptable wine list seems to have expanded since my first visit. Service was efficient, friendly and bright although perhaps room for a little more polish. One small niggle, a better grade of napkin would have fitted better with the overall design and food quality!

Excellent value for money and deserves its high local reputation.

Good restaurant with well deserved awards for good service. I'd like both the cooking and the menu to be a little bit more daring... the wow factor is more in the location and decor. The food is good but it just doesn't get me very excited. I'd like them to take some risks – Hoylake is ready for TPH to step up a gear and really win some plaudits. There's a sense of them not wanting to put people off, so playing safe. Go on... you know you want to...
