Hub of the Arts

The reputation of Hoylake as an Hub of the Arts is growing rapidly. Home to painters, sculptors, poets, musicians and performers, many of whom work at a national and international level, this 'St Ives of the North' is making its mark.

The popular Festival of Firsts, initiated by local celebrity John Gorman, goes from strength to strength.

The Open Studio tours established by Micheline Robinson bring people from far afield to visit many of the local artists studios and see them at work.

Music and Poetry can be heard resonating from clubs, bars and churches; the renowned Wirral Ukelele Orchestra rehearse and perform in Hoylake regularly; and we are proud to be the home of many successful musicians including The Coral, OMD and The Last Shadow Puppets. The Oxjam festival sees the whole town jumping with exciting new talent.

And if you're wanting to buy some of this work... pop into the quirky Seagrass Studios.

A creative community that is buzzing, bursting with ideas, a place where the arts are the key to sustainable regeneration.

Come and join in...

Wirral Open Studio Tour

The 2013 Wirral Open Studio Tour is scheduled to take place over the weekend of 15/16 June 2013.

Artists wishing to participate in the Wirral Open Studio Tour 2013 should complete an online application.

Wirral Art (previously known as Artists in our Midst) is a community group which was founded in 2009 by artist Micheline Robinson in order to create art events and a quality arts trail (Open Studio Tour) on the Wirral peninsula. All members are professional or semi-professional artists and the group aims to promote the arts on the Wirral. The 2011 tour took place over the weekend of 24/25 September 2011. Photos from the tour...

For those who are unfamiliar with the concept of the open studio tour, it is an event in which artists invite the public to visit their workshops and display spaces. It's an excellent opportunity to talk first-hand to the artists and to view their work in the environment in which it was created, to participate in free workshops led by the artists or to just enjoy having a nosey through the various venues.

The Wirral is in north west England, sandwiched between the River Dee/North Wales to the south west, and the River Mersey/Liverpool to the north east.
