Hoylake Sailing Club

Hoylake Sailing Club was founded in 1887. On 28 May 1899 the Dock Board granted members permission to erect a boathouse on the shore before the promenade was even contemplated. When the promenade was built, the clubhouse was moved back to its present position.

About 100 years ago the river and the channel were silting and it became necessary to build a flat bottomed boat and the first two of the Opera class boats San Toy and Iolanthe were built.

Today, there are 15 Operas listed in the Club Programme which are raced on a regular basis.

The club, in addition, offers Cadet Sailing for Hoylake Sailing Club Members which takes place on West Kirby Marine Lake between 18.00-21.00hrs most Friday evenings. The cadets sail Toppers and Optimists and also use Canoes and Kayaks.

If you are interested, come along, try it out and if you enjoy it become a member.
