“… I wanted to learn more, with anamal I have created a studio where all styles fall under one roof, where students can fall out of a ballet class straight into a breaking class and make a stop in musical theatre along the way.” |
As Winners of CBBC's Alesha's Street Dance Stars 2012, UDO World Street Dance Champions 2007 and 2012, and winners of ‘Now that’s what we call culture 2008’, Anamal are getting used to being in the limelight...
Here Anna tells us about "a journey that has only just begun…"
I established Anamal Dance Company in Hoylake in 2004. I am a trained dancer/teacher/choreographer and member of the istd and idta teaching associations.
As a young dancer my motivation was driven by an ingrained passion to learn and perform however the opportunities in dance were not as readily available as they are today. My motivation behind Anamal Dance Company was always to create a safe and friendly environment for young aspiring dancers to discover their talents and to unleash their potential.
When I was a young dancer my ambition was high but the options where limited with most schools offering only the fundamental foundations in dance, but I wanted to learn more, with anamal I have created a studio where all styles fall under one roof, where students can fall out of a ballet class straight into a breaking class and make a stop in musical theatre along the way. All enveloped in a professional environment where children can feel a sense of support and belonging.
However a studio in its simplest form is little more than an empty space, it is those that occupy its walls that make it a space of value, my motivation to create this company is as already described but it is the children, from the youngest to the oldest, the fun seekers to the serious athletes that keep me motivated and offer inspiration to strive forward, to aim higher, to achieve greater.
In our short history Anamal has given our local children the opportunities to perform on a west end stage, to lift the world championships trophy 3 times over, to dance alongside industry giants including 'N'dubz', Diversity, Tulisa, George Sampson, to take master class workshops at our very own studios with leading professionals including 'Turbo', Lizzi Gough, Gemini, suzette, bly richards, bam-sistas, to retain a 100 examination pass rate, to be crowned winners of BBC's Alesha's street dance stars' 2012 and to be crowned champions of 'Now that's what we call culture' at liverpools echo arena and still there is so much more to achieve.
My motivation is summed up in the motto that is scrolled across our studio walls, 'a journey of a thousand miles, begins with a first step'
And I feel that our journey has only just begun...
